Hi all,
My Volvo SX drive on 07 Hurricane has no zirc fitting to lube the gimbal bearing. I’m planning to pull the drive for routine service and want to know if I can manually lube the bearing by hand? Thanks

yeah, the new bearings are sealed, that is why they have a plug in the housing as you don't need to grease them. personally, I prefer the greaseable type, but it's gone nowadays.

Like a sealed unit bearing on the front of a 4x4 truck or SUV
Not sure if you could use one of those needle adapter fittings but be careful!
I also prefer the greaseable ones but in fact thinking about it all my vehicles have had the sealed bearings and only had to replace them on our Subarus (both the '98 and '17) never on any of the 3 Jeeps.
There is something satisfying seeing that bluish-green Lucas marine grease coming out of the gimble and u joints at the end of each season!

You can thank companies like consumer reports for giving negative points for service needs like grease fittings. So we are now in a lube for life throw away and replace society

Yeah i knew the answer before I asked the question. But I had to ask. Just sold my 84’ model Merc with original gimbal that I’d greased annually. My 07 appears to need replaced. Glad we found a “better” way.

Ok so follow up question that might be dumber than my previous one. Is it possible to add the grease tube and zirc fitting in order to make the gimbal bearing lubeable? Im already going to be in there so just wondering.
