Re: ghetto tubing

When I was a kid my dad and his friends all had plywood "saucers". They were a 48" round "saucer" that you would ride at a slow speed. You sat towards the back, (off center), so the front would not catch water. It was all fine UNTIL you came off of it, and the "saucer" came back and hit you in the head !!!

That brings back memories. We had one of those saucers (called it the "disc"). It was painted white, and had green outdoor carpeting stapled on top. We got to the point where we could stand up and do 360s on it...not too good for jumping wakes, though.

We just tied off an old truck innertube back before all the fancy pull behind's were invented. That was back when almost anything dragged behind a boat was skis.

Re: ghetto tubing

When I was younger I had a buddy that used to barefoot ski, about once every few years he'd hit a stump and spend the rest of the summer in a cast.
He was also good for jumping out of the boat at speed with the rope in hand. He'd also just slip over the side without any warning too, you would turn around and he'd be gone. He swam like a fish and loved to stay under water and surprise the unsuspecting jet skier as they passed by. I watched him grab a guy by the leg one day and pull him off his ski.
He was always the guy to be first when either skiing, tubing, or to ride what ever it was we were towing behind. If you didn't bring a tube or skis, he used his feet. The worst part was that he'd drop out of the boat and you would have to waste time and go back and look for him. Often he just jumped a ride on another boat and disappeared for the rest of the day. The bad part was we never knew if he made it or not every time he disappeared from the boat because we rarely could find him or figure out where he ended up.
