GFI = GFCI
GFI senses differential current = Current in the "Hot" verses Current in the Neutral.
GFI cannot sense current going through a person fron "Hot" to Neutral. It can only sense when part of the current finds an alternate way to return such as through a person (or object) to ground.
A GFI does not use or need the ground conductor to operate.
A GFI does not limit current and does not provide over-current protection unless it is a circuit-breaker type.
