Re: Getting Paid.

Well... it looks like it's getting resolved. The email I wrote was a bit threataning but totally professional. It's the lack of communication that kills me. But he did finally get back to me this morning.
I'm a pretty big dude, and although i'm a big goof ball in my personality, I can be scary/intimidating if I need to be. Most people are intimidated by me until they get to know me.
How many times in the past have you guys had to pull out the muscle? And obviously aside from physical stuff, how much muscle is to much? It's tough being mobile, because I have no collateral.
Being a mechanic, my terms are payment is due upon completion of work and customer satisfaction. I don't leave/accept payment untill the customer is satisfied. I take care of all the parts ordering, most of my suppliers are COD with parts but I do have 2 that i have the option of them billing me on a monthly cycle.
The only exception to that is if I have to order a part that is rediculously expensive, then I will ask for a deposit on the job up front.
I think that because I have been fair and honest with people, I don't really have problems. Every once in a while something pops up, but gets resolved quickly. It's when I feel that i'm getting "blown off" is when I get terribly irate.

Muscle doesn't carry much weight around here the number of concealed weapon permits are overwelming. A physical attack or threat on someones property or place of business will usually be met with a pistol in the face.

1. Threats get you nowhere. People do not react well to threats. It's just human nature.

2. If it was $200.00 to put the parts in, do you REALLY want to invest that time AGAIN to take them out. Spite might make you feel better but it solves-NOTHING. That doesn't sound like a sound business decision to me.

3. Send a registered letter with a copy of the invoice.

4. After you receive the return receipt, go talk to the person. Maybe there is something going on you don't know about. Maybe he's embarrassed about something and would appreciate your willingness to work with him/her.

I don't understand why so many foks get so irate so quickly these days. Threatening lawyers and everything else. Doesn't anyone TALK to anyone anymore?

Re: Getting Paid.

I used to have a mobile marine service so I know where your coming from.
I would check with your state and local laws before doing anything.
here in NC once the customer has possesion of the boat there is absolutly nothing I can do other than turn the invoice over to my attorney if its worth it.
however I did hve a service yard and occasionally,in one case 2 years later, I could get the boat dropped off in my service area.
from there I had possesion and until all charges got paid it was mine.
in my area the rare occasions I have had to retain my attorny to collect you can also ask the court for either possesion of the property and/or reasonable attorneys fees.
most civil judgements are not worth the paper they are printed on so you must be the judge as to whether its worth pursuing or not.
good luck and dont threaten cause the law works both ways.
