Because this is going to make your head explode!!! You have to read this article, my jaw hit the ground when reading it... <br /><br />In summary, the All American Canal has been leaking water across the Ameri-Mexi border for years. The group in charge of that canal wants to put a concrete lining in so that the water would not leak anymore. They estimate the lining would provide water for more than 135,000 additional AMERICAN homes. <br /><br />But of course, the Mexican farmers are protesting. They say that this will affect their land in MEXICO. So they have filed a claim in AMERICAN courts to stop the installation of the lining. <br /><br />It gets better...<br /><br />Opponents claim that the concrete lining would cause ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS to potentially get killed since there are no longer muddy edges to the canal. Why not have those ladders go up into concrete bunkers so they can be safely returned to their country. Hey put a phone in there for quicker service. Call it ROOM SERVICE. Or dial a ride, or a button that says Nurse.

Darn EE, you are starting to sound racist! That is what you hear aroung here every time you disagree with illegal immigrants. <br /><br />City of Dallas is considering putting up five statues in a park in a highly 'migrant' section of the city. That is five heros of Mexico, nothing to do with the US at all. Just want them to feel welcome and all.

Now let me get this straight. On one hand we are considering building a border fence, on the other we are building ladders to help them climb out of the canal . . .<br /><br />I have to admit, the whole Colorado River water rights thing has always bugged me. We do have a treaty that determines how much water gets "delivered", and we follow it. However, that whole dang thing used to flow into Mexico. Now I am not about to allow anybody to drain Lake Mead, but in all fairness we'd be pretty derned PO'd if we had a big arse river that went to us and it was not more than a trickle when it got here . . . So, the water thing has me conflicted. The ladders? Holy carp!!

I like the way yall think. <br /><br />I'd choose put alligators, piranhas, ladders on the south side every 1/4 mile, and a real wall on the north side. With manned guard towers.

A common occurance here, We have a lot of<br />irrigation canals as well. Seems every year<br />when the canals are filled, some time during<br />the summer season someone falls in usually children<br />playing along the edges. They can easily be swept<br />away and usually drown. Most concrete canals <br />are now equipped with ladders every 75 or so feet<br />to help anyone falling in to escape.

Good point NOSLEEP. Same with some of the other aqueducts around here. You don't have to be sneakin' to fall in. It's probably an urban legend, but I have heard that when they fish a body out of the aqueduct sections that don't have ladders, their fingers are kinda messed up . . .
