General question concept of bleed hoses what function do they perform exactly?

Trying to understand the reason these guys are hanging all over the engine. What are the bleed hoses used for. Wonder how they came into being.

They recirculate unburnt & puddled fuel from below the reed blocks to a different cylinder to burn off excess. If they were not there when you "hammered it" the raw(non atomized) fuel would be throw into crankcase and foul plugs momentarily which would cause bogging problems.
