Looking for some general info on a johnson j6reod. 95-96 year I think.

It smokes a lot. I thought I had my gas 50:1 but it's been in there for a while. Just got this motor a few weeks ago. Just got it set up on my gheenoe. It is set up stick steer with a foot control steering. Definitely customized.

Does any one know if I can add an electric start on this model?

Is the gas suppose to be 50:1?

Running it in a bucket, it smokes a pretty good bit and there is oil floating in the water. But it seems to idle fine once it's warmed up. It tries to cut off if i cut it back too fast.

Smoking is normal, very much more obvious in a bucket. Oil on the water is also normal and also much more obvious in a bucket. Get that poor thing on a boat and on the lake and it will be a "different" motor. It is a 1995 and mix is 50-1 I've never heard of an electric start on such a motor.

Yes,50:1 is what I run in my Johnson 6 hp.As for smoke, they all smoke.More noticeable in a barrel. The mess floating in the barrel is why their build 4 cycle stuff.I prefer 2 cycle myself, that's just me..Elect.start is a very costly little add on.It'll take another flywheel, starter, wiring, etc. For the cost..I'd look for another motor.IMHO Does it have a kill button or just a whist to off position ?

yeah i installed a kill switch on my false bottom, little button i can step on

i guess i can extend a rope and run it to my seat to crank it if it costs too much, or walk to the back of the boat
