I am about to install the new deck and I had a questions. I have to either paint or gel coat the ski locker and the tank area. Should I just paint it, or does gelcoat really look and work better in these applications?

I used bilgecoat on the last project and it was ok, but chipped easy.

I've used it twice, and had no issues, just a suggestion. Never tried Rust-o-leum, but can't imagine it being better than Bilgekote. Hmmmm don't have an answer for this one.....gelcoat would not be an option to me, although many have used it.

Gel Coat is made for "in the mold application". Now I'm going to get bashed for this, but you asked. It's just not worth all the trouble as a top coat.

So for the deck also? I was thinking of using it for the deck as a top coat and then using snap in carpet. Like what Mtribe did.

Frisco...

You can use Gelcoat for your ski locker and tank areas with no problems as long as its prepped correctly and wax added if its going to be your surface coat.

Gelcoat is in fact Very durable.. and for the application I think It might be equal to Awl-grip LP.

I have done so many inside/outside compartments with Both Gel and Agrip ..both work Very well.

Intresting. Don't know exactly what bilge coat is, The gell is durable, but as said, must be waxed or you will never clean it, downfall is prep requires, extremelly clean well abraded surface to adhere to, and if previously waxed I would be wary whether s/bright would suffice. The pu is more forgiving clean, s/brite paint, To improve the durability of the pu add some flexible additive most generic work, check specs, 2:1, 4:1 etc. Always add catylyst last to whole volume. Having a play with tintable bedliner, also a pu product but you can throw spanners at this stuff.
