Hello all
I recently bought a 2000 Maxim 2100sr,the boat is in great shape minus the scratch I put in it docking.
I was cleaning the hull for the first time and noticed that the gel coat seems to be worn off in a triangle shape at the aft just in front of the transom. The normal white color is worn to an almost red primer color.
Any ideas on the cause, and of course the proper way to refinish this.a side note the boat does not leak any water inside even after a week in the marina
Any and all thoughts appreciated and welcome

sandy bottom . . . anchored/moored/or slipped in shallow water. Let's call that keel abraision.

Time to by the quart of gelcoat and build the surface back up. Make sure to have the boat out of the water for a while to dry things out.

Tpenfield has got you on the right track...^^^...
Nothing major, just do some prep, apply fresh gel, sand and buff to like new...
There are plenty of how to's throughout the forum that will give you details on how to do it up right...
Here is one site I found ...The West Advisor: Gelcoat Repairs
We also have a resident gel coat repair/refinisher in the house...he goes by the handle of "Yacht Dr"...
If you can't find the info you need he will either pick up on this thread or you can send him a PM...
Best of luck...

Your boat is totally trashed and you should either throw it away or give it to me.

Nah, not really. Just time for a little cosmetic work, Penfield has got you covered.

Yup .. Looks like typical beach rash :) .

You could

1. Scuff the area with some 120 grit paper.
2. Acetone wipe clean.
3. Mask off trailer with some news paper.
4. Spray about 4 coats with just about any ol' white gelcoat ( if your not worried about a color match )with a "Preval" sprayer ( basically a CO2 pressured can with a tube on it ).
( Mix the gel with about 20% acetone to reduce it for spray .. then mix in your MEKP hardener at 2% )
5. If your not worried about a glossy finish then your done.
6. If want a glossy finish then wetsand and buff it ( start with 320 and then 400 then 600 then 1000g ).

If you have any questions just ask away.

YD.
