Hii, I am new here and hope somebody can help. I have a 115hp V4 from 1994.
Yesterday it ran good up to 3500 rpm and then when the boat goes out of the water it sounds like a manuel car when you push the gas pedal and the clutch at the same time and there was no drive anymore.
Hope somebody can help
Cheers from sunny hot New Zealand

I am owning the boat now for 6 years, pretty sure the engine was in the right position.
And I don't drink and drive. You should have asked me 30 years ago and the answer could have been different.

was referring to TD's post. it reads as though he had been celebrating the new year rather enthusiastically :D

Check the hub the way he says (or rather meant to say)

Surprising how many of us can relate to that!

Have you inspected the prop for any damage, dents, dings, on the blades or skeg that could cause cavitation at speed?

I also thought that was uncharacteristic of TD!

Hi again,
Now it is getting more difficult. Got your comments on board (the trim and tilt thing and the booze) and wonder the engine worked for the first half hour but then started again with the same thing. Had to drive back the whole Whangarei harbour on 2000rpm. I was lucky the tide came in.
Has anybody any idea?

Did you test the propeller to see if the rubber bushing between the inner and outer hub has worn? That is the most likely cause. Be sure that you have the thrust bushing and the spacer in place on the propeller shaft.

Did you mark the hub like TD said? I think that's the ticket. I'm by no means an expert, more like an slightly educated novice but it sure sounds like your hub is slipping. If it is your gear box, 2,000 rpm for any length of time would sound like nuts & bolts in a blender. Check the fluid in your lower unit to see if it has metal shavings.
