I have a 1985 9.9 hp with a 2.42:1 lower gear. Are there any other gear sets available for this unit. The powerhead was removed and has been outfitted with a 48 volt 4hp 4000 rpm electric motor for reservoir use...hence the need for a better gear ratio. ? Also.. This motor is on a 16' aluminum boat weighing in at about 900 to 1000 lbs with 2 people. Would I be better off with a 4 blade prop due to the weight ?? Any Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Off the top of my head I'd be surprised if you could find a different set of gears for your lower unit. You didn't mention what brand it is, you should ask the question in the appropriate repair group.

I'd think that you could possibly accomplish what you need to with a different pitched prop. And I can't imagine a 4 blade prop being much help for such low power, in my feeble little brain all I'm seeing is more drag from the extra blades.
