Gear oil vs gear lube

Hello,
Is there a difference in oil or lube except the price? It does say on the bottle not to mix the two. I ran premeium oil all summer with no problems. As part of my winterization I drain out the oil and replaced it with synthetic gear lube by mistake. At $13 a quart I really don't want to waste it.
