gauges not working

I have a Sea Ray 1998 185 with a 4.3 mercruise.

I had a short in some lights that were added aftermarket.

I removed the lights and wiring.

Now my gauges are not working.

the tach and the speedometer work but the amp., temp., etc; all go to the maximum point when I turn on the key.

Also, I have a fish locator hooked up and it works fine with the engine off but does not work with the engine on.

Even the lights on the switches are screwed up (some work and some don't)

Is it my sending unit or ?

Thanks

Re: gauges not working

I moved this over to Electrical. Most of these guage and wiring issues are generic and not related to the power package manufacturer. Good luck :)

Re: gauges not working

Without offering any advice you need to clarify something first. Are you certain the AMP gauge you reference is an AMMETER and not VOLTMETER. To determine this, an AMMETER scale reads -60/0/+60 or numbers similar to that. A VOLTMETER reads 8 - 18 or something similar. Voltmeters measure the electrical system voltage which for your boat is 12.6 volts with the key on and engine not running, or 14 volts (give or take a tad) with the engine running. Once you determine what gauge that is, I will offer suggestions.
