I have a 1992 Johnson Outboard motor and im having gauge issues. Sometimes my speedometer will work but cant count on it. My tach no longer works but trim gauge does work, and also my gas gauge doesnt half work. What could be the problem? any help at all will be greatly appreciated, Thanks

Re: Gauge (instrument) problems

start by cleaning all of your wiring connections...as far as the speedo....blow compressed air through the hose from each end , and also through the pitot...

Ditto, and don't be in a hurry and take your time. Amazing how many problems can be fixed with clean connections/terminals. Good luck...

Re: Gauge (instrument) problems

On the backside of your gauges, you'll see a purple, black, gray, and white/tan stripe. Purple is ignition power, this will initially run to your tach, then daisy chain to the other gauges. Black is ground from the engine, this will do the same. Gray is tach sender, white/tan stripe is trim sender. Make sure all are tight. Your fuel gauge will be powered by purple, but the sender is pink. And make sure the purple on the key switch is tight...
