Yesterday the US natural gas production went up by some fraction of a percent.

The well on the property adjascent to The Hideout "came in".

The next well will be on The Hideout.

I may get to own another Boston Whaler before I croak after all. :)

Re: GAS!

How does that work JB? Do they approach you and say "Here's a gazillion dollars, we want to dig up your property". Do you get royalties?

Re: GAS!

First, they bought a 3 year lease on the subsurface mineral rights on The Hideout and adjacent acreage.

They started drilling about a month ago.

Then they bought an easement lease on 5 acres of The Hideout to built a water storage facility they call a "frac pit". The water is used to fracture the gas bearing shale once they have drilled down to it and then gone horizontal for a few thousand feet. The easement includes payment, per rod, for the all weather road to the pit and for the water lines from the pit to the well and from the pond to the pit. Then they bought most of the water in my fish pond.

They took out two of my cheap panel gates (one 24' and one 12') and replaced them with 32' steel pipe gates so their heavy equipment can get through them.

Next they will enlarge and seal my little "yard pond" and transfer brood stock of channel cats from the fishpond to it. Then they will drain the fishpond, "clean" it, which involves removing about 6-8' of silt from the bottom, and allow it to refill from winter/spring rains. That will more than double its capacity and make it suitable for bass and bluegill. :)

So far I get some nice improvements and lease payments and sold them the water in the fishpond.

If they get gas on The Hideout, I will get royalties.

When it is all done, they will restore the land that the frac pit is on, and all the improvements will be mine.

No. I wouldn't move to Beverly Hills on a bet. I'm staying right here forever.
