Hello folks I was given a Evinrude 4hp little motor. The gas in the tank was awful smelling and I removed the fuel lines&filter. Is there a way to remove the tank from the motor head?

My guess year would be late 70's to early 80's. I tried to upload some pics from my phone but they didn't go through.
Looks to be a 79 model.

As tphoyt says it is a 1979 model.
I assume you know not to undo the screw on the top of the cover and that it is released by removing two screws, #9, from underneath.
The fuel tank is then just held by two retainers, also #9
It holds the recoil starter in position in the cover.
Put it back in before you proceed to removing the cover or it will all fall apart and the spring will escape like a caged tiger suddenly being let loose. Hopefully it has not already come free.
