I have a 1989 50hp Force outboard 507X9D. It hasn't been started in about five years it cranks good but when you crank it gas spews from a port hole on the side of the carb. it sputtered once and than started to spew gas.

Clean the carb and be sure to test the fuel cutoff (needle valve and float) before you reinstall.

Anyone know the float adjustment hight
It runs only when I kick the secondary butterfly open a bit than dumps a lot of gas through motor. Smokes bad. (white Smoke)

What do you mean by the ---" secondary butterfly "----Never heard of such a thing on these motors.

Dumps a lot of gas through the motor?
Are you running it on muffs?
If a lo of gas is coming out through LU (exhaust snout) probably the fuel pump diaphragm is bad.
And yes as racerone mention "kick the secondary butterfly"?
These engines has two butterflies, first one you see when you looking at the carb mouth is the choke butterfly and then behind and just in front of the intake manifold is the throttle butterfly.

...... yes, Reed Block Assembly!
Just replaced all 3 rba on my 1996 FORCE 75 hp that would NOT IDLE!
Cleaned carb while carb was off to remove the intake manifold and reed blocks etc.
FIXED the "no idle issue" !!!!! YEA!

3 cylinders - one carb
3 REED BLOCKS
8 reeds/reed block assembly.
2 out of 24 reeds were not closing.
Since I had it torn down I went ahead and replaced all 3 REED BLOCKS (~$150ea) w/new. MAKE SURE to use medium locktite on the 6 reed block screws! I forgot! **questions? Will this be a major issue for me? Should I disassemble and put the medium locktite on those 6 reed block screws?? Can I use the same new reed block and reed block adaptor gasket? Been on for about 3 days.
Dang, newby mistake!
THANKS!~

Check the fuel pump diaphragm. I had one tear on me for no reason and when I pumped the fuel bulb gas would pour out of the bottom carb. I bypassed the bottom carb and pumped the fuel bulb again and fuel still flowed out of the bottom carb and the exhaust port down by the prop. If the fuel pump diaphragm is good then it's the reeds. Float height is basically line up the top of the float with the carb housing.
