My brother and I are trying to get my dads 60hp Elgin running again. Does anyone know the gas/oil ratio for this motor? Is there a good place to find parts for this motor? Thanks.

Welcome to the iboats.com forum! The members here are great and the experts, which I am not, can help you solve any problems. To get a response, you probably should post the model number, model year or, at the very least, a picture or two of your Dad's great old motor. Good luck!

I found some info at the link below. It appears to me that 60HP Elgin motors were only offered for model years 1959 & 1960 and were manufactured for Sears by McCulloch. Service info for that motor can be found at the same website under McCulloch. I did a lot of skiing behind a Larson All-American with a 60HP McCulloch Flying Scott and it was a great motor. The gas/oil mix ratio should be 8oz/gal or 16:1. Looks like you can run 6oz/gal or 21:1, if it is a 1960 model.

LOGIN as directed and then drill down to: Small Engines, Marine/Boat Motors, McCulloch and Flying Scott. Good luck!

Re: Gas ratio for a 60 hp Elgin.

Thanks for your help Willyclay. We were able to locate the model number and cross referenced it on the website. It is a 1959 Elgin and my dad bought it at Sears for $500.00. I didn't see were you got the gas/oil ratio. If possible could you post a link to the information. The boat is a 1957 Fleetform, it is black on the top and orange on the bottom. It was sitting in my other brothers garage for years. I would like to get it running and take my dad out for a spin in it.
Thanks again.

Glad to help! Gas/oil ratio info is found on Page Two under McCulloch/Flying Scott at this link from the iboats.com thread posted above.

When you get it running, let us know how your Dad liked it after all these years! I just finished helping my oldest son get his boat going again after five years in storage in my garage and we had a super time together.
