Gas Question

I was running the boat and it slowly stalled out. Having talked to a mechanic, we thought it may be bad gas. I took the gas line out emptied a little and got some of the mixture in a water bottle (left bottle in picture). I saw that the stuff on the bottom which I believed was water but it was an amber color. The bottle on the right has fresh water and fresh gas that I mixted as a comparison.

Where is the disconnect? Does anyone have any ideas as to what is going on here?

Thank you

Re: Gas Question

I am thinking that the water and the fuel have mixed over time, unlike oil were you will see the water particles ball up, fuel and moisture will mix.

Re: Gas Question

1- You are buying bottled water.

2- You are buying bottled water from walmart.

3- you are posting photos from last summer, as I can see green grass and leaves on the trees in the background.

No, seriously, It just looks like really old bad gas, possibly with something else added to it by mistake.

Re: Gas Question

The left bottle may have water at the bottom. The color can come from sediment in the tank that accumulates from old gas. Dies, rust, broken down additives, etc.

Re: Gas Question

That looks like water to me... what's the question? Get rid of the bad gas and change all the filters.

Water doesn't come out of a gas tank as crystal clear drinking water.

Re: Gas Question

I see old gas with contaminants. Drain tank and change filters.

You may also want to inspect the tank, if it's not aluminum it may be rusting. Had gas like that in one of my old vehicle tanks, had a bad tank and had to replace it.

Re: Gas Question

you have ethanol poisoning. Your old gas suffers from phase seperation. drain the tank, clean it, and replace with fresh fuel, and treat it with Startron or other treatment.
