Australia -

Roughly converted to USD, $5.65 a gallon. Most stations only sell non-ethanol fuels but it is becoming more widely available. E10 (10% ethanol) is about 40 cents a gallon cheaper. We don't have 85.

Re: Gas prices abroad....

Gas (10%ethanol) went from $3.65 yesterday morning to $3.74 yesterday afternoon here (Eau Claire, WI).

I get a boat magazine, with reviews of boats on the market -- I'm looking at the GPH of these, and they're between 22 and 26 gph at WOT. Understanding that you PROBABLY don't run WOT all the time, but if you did it for an hour on the lake, you just blew almost $100.

I bought a new trolling motor, so I don't have to use gas all the time --campground electric is included in cost, so I can charge up the batteries during the day.

At what point will we hit our "breaking point"? I listened to the radio yesterday, and if crude hits $200 a barrel (which it's forecasted to do), then gas will be somewhere between $7 and $10 a gallon.... So, I watched CNN last night, and they said the same thing.

My WORK truck takes 36 gallons of gas, filled up twice a week, sometimes more.

So, what do we do?

Re: Gas prices abroad....

E10 (10% Ethanol) costs more than regular gas ....... that is what we have been told. Presently ALL of VT & CT is only allowed to sell E10 but it is supposed to improve air quality.

There was this big announcment on the news on how VT was willing to sacrifice MPG for air quality!!! They never asked anyone like me.

We have the LEAST amount of vehicles in the USA.... we are absolute last on the list but have higher emmission standards than 48 states.

There is a plan to close the nuclear power plant in 2012 where we get a portion of our electric.

Here the prices vary by 40cents a gallon very easily, they mostly jump up on thurdays, and go slowly down on mondays...

In Ottawa, it's arround 5$ a gallon for regular gas...

Venezuela-$0.12 Per Gallon :)
Egypt-$0.65 Per Gallon
UK - $5.79

Some European countries about 75% of the cost of gas comes from taxes though...

Oil Prices are controlled by fear and greed. Just a while ago, two small Iranian boats were though to attack a vessel in the middle east. (forgot the details...) But anyway, oil prices per barrel jumped a few dollars, just because of the thought of the very unlikely possibility of war.

For every forecast of doom and gloom, $200 barrel/$10 gallon, there is another analyst forecasting $60 barrel/$2 gallon. You take your chances and place your bets. Go long on oil or short? Elephino!

Milwaukee is sitting at $3.85 right now. I expect it to go up another .10-.20 over the next 3 weeks then drop by about .50-.60 over the month of June.

Why do I expect that? Because that's what it's done every year for about the last decade. Spike up in April & May then drop back to mid-April prices by the 4th of July. Every year averages .20-.30 higher than the year before.

I paid an average of $3.09 per gallon for my boat last year. The year before was around $2.75-$2.85. I expect to average about $3.39?.10 per gallon this year. And next year it'll be about $3.50-$3.70.

For me, I'm going to enjoy myself on the lake and not worry about it. Either the Doom & Gloomers are right and this is as good as it's going to get, so enjoy it while you can. Or they are all wet and life will only get better. Either way, Party On!

Re: Gas prices abroad....

Up here in Victoria, BC we are just north of $5/gallon ($1.30/litre more or less). Yep it hurts. Nope it is not going to back down, at least not more than a few cents.
The G7 countries are currently the big users but it looks like India/China are going to be leading a lot of new demand...unfortunately.
I think I'm going to do some more restoration on my surprisingly economical ol' '66 Chev 1/2 ton with the 6 cylinder and start moving away from the V-8's for a while until Diesel technology starts to hit over here a bit more. Or perhaps put the 4 cyl/4-runner back on the road. As for boating, I'll do as much as what I have done before. I wouldn't want to commute in a boat, given its inherently poor mileage, but a bit of recreation budget is ok.

Re: Gas prices abroad....

Ethanol. What a joke. Just another load of BS. Here is some hard facts about ethanol.

http://healthandenergy.com/ethanol.htm

Flathead,
Do you really believe those numbers that the article you posted puts on the production of corn? I don't, I grow corn, and I know what the inputs to producing an acre of corn are. He is a way off, it takes at most 14 gallons of fuel to "plant, grow and harvest an acre of corn here", not the 140 that he lists. If you want me to break down my costs I can, but I don't want to bore you with the truth if thats not what you want to believe. Anyway, I do agree with you, that ethanol isn't the answerto the energy issues.

$1.24.9 per litre now... (=right around $5 per gallon, US... maybe ~$4.90 depending on exchange rate)... Yes our province has just mandated E10... it's just being put into effect.

Prices will go up next week.... because of the long weekend coming.

Good posts guys, keep them coming.
But how has your inflation been, particulary in Canada and Europe?
Has your prices doubled/tripled in the last 8 years?

Re: Gas prices abroad....

In some countries gas/energy costs are subsidised by their Govt's, it keeps the lid on mass revolt and their leaders get to stay in power a bit longer.
Here in the USA our Govt subdises the gas/energy companies and various large corps, many of them happy to export their production to other countries.
The bottom line is the American tax payer is indirectly footing the bill to subdise gas/energy costs for other nations.
In other words the only friends we have are the ones we can afford to buy. :(
