Hi, i have a 2000 Mercury Salt-Water 90hp, and it has run great since i bought it. In getting it ready for the season and having the motor tilted up for trailering etc, i noticed a gas drip coming from what appears to be the lower carb. Its enough that it bothers me and it never did this in the past. Any idea what the cause is and how to fix it? thanks, michael

any advice is much appreciated.

PS. I'm not really mechanically inclined but can do minor repairs etc.

Re: Gas leak when motor titled up

The bowl fills with fuel and the float follows the level. The float pivots on a pin and between the pin and the float part is a needle valve. Purpose of this valve is to shut off the fuel inlet when the float reaches the proper level (an adjustment made at the time of maintenance). If the float or needle valve do not do their intended job correctly, usually do to age or wear on the valve and possibly goo from bad fuel on the float (sticking) then what you have will happen and it's time to work your carbs over; clean out the crud and new kit which includes a new needle valve and seat.
