I want a locking gas cap but cannot check the boat dia.
Will a 1 1/2 " cap and flange insert work?

Re: Gas cap

Check eBay. I found one for my boat that fits inside the tank fill, just under the cap. It works (kind of) like a plug. It has a large key which becomes the handle to put it in/take it out. Fit perfect, was pretty inexpensive, and doesn't require cap replacement.

I wanted to try and verify if it is a 1 1/2" as that is the only size I see avail for locking caps. Are they pretty much standard one size?
I am not close to boat so cannot check it myself.

Re: Gas cap

I don't remember the measurement. I have recently sold the boat so I can't check, but I think 1 1/2" is about right.

The one I had was a black plastic tube-like fitting. When the key/handle was turned, two metal wings extended from the body, which bit into the sides of the filler tube. There is a lip inside the tube so it can't fall in.

I'll see if I can find a link and post it for you.

Re: Gas cap

The picture is a little deceiving. There is no way it can fall into the filler hose. As long as the lock is in the 'open' position, the handle can't be removed. This works as a positioning tool and a safety feature.

When the metal tabs come out and lock into the inner portion of the fill tube, the top lip rests on the inside of the gas cap retaining ring. It's too big to fall in and can't be removed without the key. The stock gas cap goes in right over top of it.

I think I paid around $20-25 for it. Worked like a champ.

Sooo. has someone been siphoning your gas from the marina?? or the driveway?? isnt there some sort of spring in the fuel line that makes it difficult to siphon. I had to drain a friends tank once the only tubing we could get down to the fuel was a 1/4" and it took forever to drain.

That looks like this is for a "Perko" fill tube. I have a original factory gas tube and cap so not sure how this would work? What I need is an actual cap that locks - not an insert to prevent siphoning.
I just think to avoid anyone messing with it as it sits for long periods of time, I would like it locked
