I got a great deal on a 20 ft I/O 1976 Galaxy this summer,( my first boat) it has a 351 eng and alpha 1 stearn drive. When I started rebuilding it I asked questions from the local boat repair/dealer and I soon discovered they didn't know much, so I turned to the books and your forum. I have rebuilt the pump, replaced he seals, the shifting cable, exhaust bellows, rebuilt the carb, points, plugs, distrubitor and I am ready to sail thanks to you guys, if there was something I couldn't figure out I turned to the forum and read your posts.
I have one suggestion, I don't have a helper to turn the prop to find forward and reverse, so I loped a 1/4 line around the prop shaft and and rail at the stearn and then when I needed to check forward or reverse I pulled the rope, at 67 my legs are to old to climb in and out that many times.
Thank you all for the advice posted on this forum.
