Garmin GPS Recommendations?

I have a small (17') trailered boat that I use in different waterways (bays, rivers, etc) and I'm looking for a GPS unit that I can install on the dash. I'm familiar with Garmin so I'd like to stick with that brand. Screen size can be on the small side (4" or so) with a color map display and internal antenna. Older models preferred to keep price down. Any recommendations?

Thanks!

You might want to go to the Garmin website and pick out what charts you want, then look for compatible units.
For example, the US Inland lake maps are compatible with a wide range of Garmin units including many of the automotive units like the Nuvi 1100 which can be found for very reasonable prices.

I had an etrex on my first boat. I bought a dash mount for it. I did not really need the maps as much as the course line to find my way back home.

Thanks. I have a Nuvi for my truck, but it's one that doesn't take marine charts. Worked backwards from the charts on Garmin site and found this: Garmin Colorado 400c which might work out - still a little pricey tho (for me)... Know of a model that does both coastal nav and roads? Could sell the Nuvi and use for both.

For both coastal and roads Garmin a 378/478 would fit the bill.

They work pretty well in combination with one of these:D

A smart phone is OK if you want to know your location. I can't see trying to navigate with something that small.
