I have 2009 maxum 1800sr3. 4.3lv6 With 200hours on it.
My starter crapped out on me over this winter season so I just pulled it off today. My first time doing this on any engine so bare with my noob questions.
The plastic seal blocking debry from entering the flywheel housing through the gaps around the starter was crap right from the factory. It had original plastic jammed behind it. Also Bolts with rubber seals on them so there impossible to remove. I got frustrated from not being able to get a socket on the starter bolt because of this piece of plastic and ripped it off. I will make a better one myself and glue it on.
Now im not shur what its for but theres a vent that goes into this area that was also full of garbage, even a metal bottle cap? wtf And looks like some various strings and stuff went all the way below the flywheel.
This must have happened when my bilge flooded from an unknown source that i wasnt able to recreate. After the flooding I changed all fluids and filters and got 75 hours running since then.
Im thinking of blowing some compressed air into the flywheel housing to blow that crap out, or get some long tweezers and try and grab it. Will blowing the air in there risk blowing that crap into an area of the engine that is worse? Ive never seen the back of an engine before.
