Gap in shift linkage

Ok thank you for your help. I am still confused weather or not I have to sepperate the upper and lower halves of the drive to get to this washer.

Yes, you do have to split the units, see page 3C-16 in the link

But make sure you know how to assemble it correctly so this dosent happen

I did this a few years ago. I put a band clamp on the shaft as a temporary fix. 4 years later and I just fixed it correctly...

I was wondering if I could do something like that temporarily while I put new components in one drive then switch them.
