Gap between prop and lower unit

when i got ready to removed my prop to check the numbers on it, it seems to have approx 1/4" play when tightened all the way down is this ok?

I'm no expert but looks to me like you're missing a thrust washer or something on the back side of the prop or it just plain wasn't tightened down enough. I think they should be torqued to somewhere around 40lbs.

What Model/Yr engine? If your prop shaft is moving that much then you have a lower unit issue. If the prop only is moving then it is a thrust washer issue.

Thanks guys! Its just the prop that moves. its a 1997 force 90hp elpt. My prop setup is a little diff then the link supplied above. the piece between the prop and nut sits on top of the prop and not into it. anyone have a site to pick up a thrust washer?

There were several different implementations of the FloTorq hub..see pic.
Also there is the standard hubbed prop setup. see pic
Which do you have?

I agree that just looks loose. Pull the cotter pin and check the prop nut for tightness. Make sure you have a spare cotter pin on hand. They can break...

Before you put the nut on, do you see any spleen sticking out? If not you are ok. If you do, then you need a spacer before the nut goes on.
