Gamefisher 3hp gear lube?

Do these motors have lower unit gear lube?
If so how do i check? I don't see the normal fill drain screws as seen on other motors.

The one I have calls for grease rather than gear oil. I think it is a 65-66 3.5 hp. Year or model number on yours may help.

If you dont see drain plugs it takes grease. Lubiplate. Yours should use oil. The 2.5hp had a drain plug behind the prop.

I’ve been running a Tanaka 3.0 for decades….remove the 2 hex bolts right behind the prop….remove prop shaft/carrier/gears in one easy piece….inspect/ drain 80-90 marine gear lube…clean it all out with spray cleaner/ lubricant like WD-40….refill cavity with fresh 80-90 gear lube, re- install prop shaft/carrier/ gears…if no gasket is available, a bead of silicone sealant around the carrier will hold lube in and water out…all this is very easy and simple….don’t lose that small flat metal thrust washer on front of prop shaft…

Does the motor need to be laying with the prop up?
Otherwise the lube would flow out? Right?

Yes, lay the motor on the work bench with the prop up….may be a bit easier with prop removed from prop shaft….when you refill the unit don’t overfill it or it will overflow when you put the gears/ carrier back in….the silicone gasket compound works great to seal lower unit…especially since those gaskets are probably no available anyway….like I mentioned, this is a dead simple thing to do…
