Then it is hard to pull and will not start up for awhile. Thanks

Re: Gale BUccaneer 5HP

You need to go back to basics.
Is the engine getting very hot when it stops.
Is it pumping water and is the water hot or cold.
Have both cylinders got compression.
As its hard to pull after a run, it could be the engine or a problem with the leg, or even fuel mix.

More info would help.

Re: Gale BUccaneer 5HP

Two things need to be checked:

The igniton coils. Have they been replaced? If so, were they adjusted not to rub on the flywheel magnets? If not replaced, they probably need to be. That will cause no start when warmed up.

The shock absorber in the lower unit. If broken, it will cause the motor to tighten up and be hard to pull.

What year or model number? If your running in a barrel the water needs to be up to the bottom of the clamp.Hard to pull could be overheat.Carefully feel the head.
to hot to hold your hand on but not so hot it will burn you.

The shock absorber is in the lower unit, below the bearing plate, which is below the water pump.

Re: Gale BUccaneer 5HP

Maybe. If it is tight and hard to turn, and loosens up when you remove the water pump and bearing plate, you have found the trouble. Also, if it has been running very long in an expanded condition, the top end of the absorber will show heat damage, as will the bottom end of the bearing housing.

If you remove the absorber and clean the drive shaft hole out real good and get it out in the bright sunlight and peer down in the hole, you may be able to see the broken ends on the spring.

Sometimes they aren't really broken, but merely expanded from much torture and abuse. In that case you may get away with simply pounding it back together. Er...should I say "pressing" it back together?

How do you take the shock absorber apart to get the spring out? I have been told that if i take the spring out and weld it together it will work. Has any body done this?

Re: Gale BUccaneer 5HP

Some have tried it and claim that it worked. I tried it and the result was so far out of alignment that there was no way. Good luck
