Hi,
I have been looking at the G3 and the Crestliner modified v's 17' - 18'. They both have their pro's and cons including the motor. Both dealers say theirs is the best... Has any of you researched these boats or what is your opinion on either manufacturer. Thanks

You are not required to take the motor that's on the boat. If you want a different brand of motor and the dealer won't cooperate, order the boat with no pre-rig. Then go to the dealer that sells the motor you want. No rocket science here. Buy what you want -- not what the dealer wants you to have. And don't be intimidated by a dealer that tells you if you don't take their motor they won't warantee the boat. Ask them for a copy of the warranty and you will find no such reference. Same goes for the motor. If the dealer won't order a no pre-rig boat, tell him to take a hike. Crestliner is owned by Mercury and G3 is owned by Yamaha so it stands to reason they package their boats with the respective engine. That should not bind you to their engine however. Alumacraft is every bit the boat either of the other two are and they aren't owned by an engine manufacturer and their boats can be ordered with no pre-rig. I know because I've done it.

Those are two of the best aluminum boats out there IMO. Both are owned by great companies with great outboards. If it were me I guess I would buy from the dealer that I thought would give me the best deal and the best service. Alumacraft and Lund are also worth consideration if you haven't already made up your mind.
