This is a new to me boat. When I bought the boat the FWC was low on coolant and it took a few tries to get the cooling system filled with coolant and get the air out of the cooling system. Then while running the engine as a final test before an actual run in the water and a hose blew off where I had forgotten to tighten the clamp. So again needed to fill the system with coolant and get the air out of the system. Then I brought the engine up to operating temp again and after it cooled down I added a little more coolant.

This past weekend we went out cruising on the Delaware Bay for maybe 90 min. Came back in without any issues.

A day later with the engine cool, the coolant reservoir was down maybe 1 cup.

Trying to determine if I am loosing coolant somehow or still getting air out of the cooling system?

I ran a cooling system pressure test last year and no issues.

Coolant is pure looking in reservoir so most likely no mixing with the raw water in heat exchanger.

No coolant in the bilge.

Oil looks fine. Not milky.

Your fine, while you purged 90 sum % of the air, your didn't get 100%

All good go boating

So what happens if one full the level up to the very top of the reservoir and screws the cap on and gets the engine to it's normal operating temp?

If you do that, you should get antifreeze in the bilge. Antifreeze expands when heated. That’s why the reservoir is marked full hot and cold. Don’t fill it above the cold mark when engine is cold.

If you fill the reservoir to the very top when the engine is cold and then run the engine until its at operating temperature the coolant will expand but there is no place for it to go to so what happens?

Once the antifreeze pressure reaches 15psi it will start spewing out around the cap. Cap is pressure sensitive. Or you’ll find a hose that wasn’t tightened up enough and it will blow off. None of this will be good and could be dangerous.
