Re: Future wife

Ron, these things always seem to get WAY outta hand. I personally feel that a beautiful wedding dress, friends and family, and booze are the most important thing at any wedding. Guests lists and decorations and all the other details can get overwhelming. Hang in there and try not to get too invloved except when it comes to the finances if you are paying for it yourselves.

There is no need to spend so much money that you're broke for the first year of marriage or can't afford a decent honeymoon.

Weddings shoud never be about how big or impressive they are, they should be about sharing a day of joy with those you love.

Re: Future wife

My wife and I put the "cart" before the "horse" (if you know what I mean). Found out on a Monday that we, for certain, did just that. Notified parents of our situation and were told to go visit wife's parents that weekend, but be married before we did.

We got married on a Thursday at noon. I went to work, took an extended lunch, met my soon-to-be bride at our church along with my dad and step-mom, my best friend and hers. In 20 minutes, the little service (total of 10 people in the sanctuary) was over and we went to Olive Garden for lunch. I then went back to work with my left hand in my pocket because, at the time, I was still in shock at how my world had just changed. I'm obviously not concerned about it any longer or I wouldn't have posted this.

My wife wore her best Sunday dress and I wore a suit. After 11 years of marriage and 3 kids later, we are so much better off.

We thought of having a blow-out ceremony at our 1-year anniversary; however, we thought it silly. My wife never was one of those girls who dreamt about all that stuff so she didn't care.

We've been to many a wedding and agree that it is such a hassle.

Feel for you Ron G. Youngest daughter got married this fall -- planned for a year. Poor SIL - I know what you're going through. I tried to talk daughter in simple wedding or elope. They have a child and have lived as a couple for 2 years - daughter didn't know if she wanted to get married. And, this guys a keeper!

Good thing -- He paid for it all (could afford it). But I still has to show up, walk the isle (proudly). Did get a really nice gift from SIL -- so worth it. Was painful seeing what he went through -- I never would have done it. And the were living in AZ so She had to fly up every couple of months to keep things going!

GOOD LUCK!! Keep sharing -- makes wife wonder what I'm smiling about!
