I'm retired now, but on a construction site we used to have some funny sayings.
I would place a material order and ask for cordless extension cords. Or solar powered flashlights. Not rechargeable by solar, but solar powered. Then there was the ole' sky hook, bucket of steam and florescent tubing bender to name a few.

When you're wiring up your boat, or anything else for that matter and the wires aren't long enough, my goto is the Greenlee Wire Stretcher.

Use to ask the networking newbies to go get me one so I can make the CAT6 cables in the server room fit better..
Took them FOREVER to come back with a question...

Iron Worker for a number of years

Send a "bullganger" down to the truck to get a left handed crescent wrench to turn on the acetylene tank.

New "bulls" walked the job picking up spent welding rods to be recycled.

Yep, the ole' wire stretcher. I could have used that on more than one occasion! And the fixture hickey too!

I used to help a friend out in his Bear Pepper Spray Factory... The meaning of getting hosed down took on a whole different perspective in that place!

Iron Workers have steel nuts and Electricians have wire nuts! And for you plumbers out there, our poop is your bread and butter! My Plumber cousin told me that one. (He didn't use the word poop)

I don't do mechanical work professionally, but love messing with guys when working on stuff ... ask for an adjustable wrench and when they get you one, hand it back and say "No, no. I need metric."

... then start counting down how long it takes ...

There's a store by me that has a left handed section. Crazy stuff, like left handed pencils, hammers, screwdrivers...no....really.....it's a real store.

The old plasterers would send the new help out to the truck for a mud stretcher . Most would just look at them confused .
So they would say it.s right in the back . It’s blue with a red handle ..
That usually got them looking for it ... heh heh !

On board ship one of good ones was to send a new FA (E2) to supply for relative bearing grease. However it was used so often that they often knew they were being hoodwinked and would just go and lollygag around for an hour or so.

The good old sky hook. We had a guy join the gang that I went to HS with and played ball with, He was a 5'8" 210 pound Bull of a lad then. We called him Big Zee, I still see him to this day socially and fish together. The old guys then sent him for the proverbial "Sky Hook". If anyone is familiar with a Steel Plant we had "L" shaped hooks with teeth that would hook to an overhead crane to skull Torpedo Ladles that held 200 plus tons of molten Iron. It weighed about 200 pounds. Here comes Big Zee dragging one down the laneway. It was the last time some wise butt asked Big Zee to do anything but his job. He's still a beast 40 years latter.

Then there's the "Thumb wrench". Positive end batteries, 25 hour strip charts, white printer ink. You have to be careful what you ask for, I once asked Big Zee, same guy to go get a blowpipe, 5 foot cast 5/8th steel pipe 9" in diameter lined with 2" of cast Refractory, about 250 lbs, maybe, I never weighed one. I meant for him to use the tow motor and get one. Here comes Big Zee dragging one across the floor using a steel cable sling. Oh my.

You don't need a wire stretcher, just call the power company and tell them to let out some on their end.
