Re: fuel water separator almost worthless for ethanol laced gasoline?
I have not done this yet, it is just old gas that had water in an old tank which therefore had a big problem with E10.
As far as fuzzy math, the entire alcohol portion separates. At 10% in a 100 gallon tank that means 10 gallons of alcohol and a small amount of water mix sitting on the tank bottom. At least that is what I get from reading on the subject.

When I read this, to me, it sounds like only gas on top and ethanol-water on bottom and nothing else.
Not like still have ethanol-gas ok on top and a little bit of ethanol-water on bottom.
The plot thickens (along with the gas)!

Q What issues are caused by ethanol?s attraction to water?
A. Ethanol molecules have a stronger bond to
water molecules than to gasoline molecules.
In the absence of water, ethanol and gasoline
molecules will bond. When water is added to
E10 fuel, the bond between the ethanol and
gasoline will weaken. When the percentage of
water in E10 fuel reaches approximately 0.5%,
the bond between the ethanol and gasoline
molecules will breakdown and the ethanol molecules will attach to the water molecules. This is
called phase separation.
Q What happens when phase separation
occurs?
A. Several things happen:
? The ethanol and water molecules settle to
the bottom of the fuel tank forming a distinct layer of water & ethanol on the bottom
and gasoline without ethanol on the top
