I have a 1999 chriscraft 240 bowrider with 280hp FI/5.7 liter outdrive.
Been having occurances of gas smell - replaced sender/gaskets 3 times.
marina finally advised fule vent could be the trouble, But can't find it
anyplace out side the hull. No gas in bottom of hull. Thanks for any insight.

Re: fuel vent missing

Ayuh,... Welcome Aboard,...

Find the Gas tank,...
Find the Vent fitting on the tank...
Follow the hose...
The Vent will be on the other end...

It maybe incorporated into the Fill fitting...

Re: fuel vent missing

besides the vent......

find the motor fuel line feed from the gas tank......follow it.....you will see/feel/smell gas somewhere along the way.
i doubt that a 99 will have a tank leak.gotta be a loose fitting somewhere.
but you gotta find it......very dangerous.

Re: fuel vent missing

Some fuel fills have the vent plumbed in to it. If your cap doesn't seat tight, you might be getting the odor from there.

Open the fuel fill and look into it. Pretty good chance that you'll see the vent hole you are looking for - thats where mine is. Vent line may be collapsed or plugged.
