Fuel Transducer Location?

I want to install a fuel sensor on my 1976 Mercruiser 233 but unsure as to where. The fuel line from the fuel pump to the carburetor is solid and I don't want to cut it. There is no room between the fuel/water separator and pump. The fuel line to the engine filter is rubber and can be spliced in anywhere. If I put it in the rubber line before the filter and mechanical pump, will the flow be steady enough to be accurate??

Sensor for what? Pressure? Flow? Level?

If it's a fuel pressure sensor you're wanting to install, it has to go between the pump and carburetor.

If your fuel transducer is like mine (Garmin gfs-10) they must be installed between the fuel tank and the primary filter in a vertical fuel line.

Most require a 30 micron fuel filter in front of them as well

It is a fuel flow sensor. The fuel pump is mechanical. I am just curious if the sensor is installed so far away from the carburetor and on the suction side of the pump if the accuracy is affected.

your steady state operation will be accurate enough
your transient operation will be averaged by the fact you have a carburetor

the fuel flow meter wont be affected if its mounted 2 ft away, or 20 ft away from the carb.
