Fuel Tank vent Hose

I recently purchased a 94 Wellcraft Eclipse 196 with a 5.0LX Mercruiser with Alpha One Gen 2. I don't think that is relevant to the question I have, but in reading through the forum I know that people like to know what you are working on. I am going through and checking all hoses and wiring. I noticed that the vent hose from the gas tank runs out the side of the boat and has a threaded piece on outer hull, but nothing is on it. Should there be something that that prevents water from reaching the fuel?

I am not sure that this is the right place for this question but could not find one that fit better and since the tank is feeding a mercruiser.... :)

Re: Fuel Tank vent Hose

Yes, there's a finished end/cap that faces outward. Most likely the vent fitting was all plastic and the end broke off when somebody hit the dock. I have vents for fuel, water and the head, and 2 of mine are busted off at the end, too.

You'll need to disconnect the vent hose from the old fitting, pull what's left of the old one out, install a new one from the outside and reclamp the hose to the new fitting. It's straightforward but the vent hose clamp can be tough to reach inside the boat. FYI, fuel vent hoses and fittings are all the same size - 5/8"

Have fun!
