I have a 1993 2452 Bayliner Express, has anyone replaced or repaired a fuel tank leak for this boat

Re: Fuel Tank leak

Gary, A SR of that vintage may have an aluminum fuel tank. If so, and if you use it in saltwater, the tank may have lots of pockmarks and some pinholes. These are usually not repairable. Drain the tank via the gauge sender access hole and pull it for inspection. if it is as I described, you may replace it with a plastic tank of the same size. Normally the tank would be a stock item from Tiempo or Moeller.

Have you ever replaced the tank in this boat? It looks as though I will have to remove the engine. Will I also have to remove the outdrive?

Re: Fuel Tank leak

Gary, a friend of mine has a Bayliner Trophy and they had to cut the deck and re glass it to change out the tank. I am going through the same thing right now, in fact I got some advice from a repair shop to drain and put water in the tank and cut it and collapse it so it will come out my hole. I have a 115 gallon tank and present and will go to a smaller tank, just don't need that big of a tank fishing here in the San Juan Islands, so will drop down to about 75 gallons to make an easier fit installing the new tank.

Re: Fuel Tank leak

You're probably going to find it easier and less expensive just to cut out the deck and reglass it. But before you start ripping and tearing things up are you positive it is the tank and not the fuel filler leaking?
A very inexpensive way to check the tank would be to do a pressure test. Do a Google search for the info.
Let us know what you come up with. :D
