fuel tank install

i am installing a new aluminum fuel tank below the deck in my bowrider. I am unsure of any specifics as far as the fill vent and pickup. Are there any guidelines i should follow as far as the way i run the hoses to the gunnel for the fill. Are there any certain things i should be doing with my vent tube? i have a fill cap in the gunnel which i will route direct to the tank, but where do i vent the tank to? My pickup, can it run in any direction to get to the outboard, or do i need to maintain some sort of elevation on it? I am mainly concerned with the vent tube so i dont trap fumes and create a dangerous situation.
