I have a 18' outboard w/ a below deck aluminum fuel tank. When the tank is full everything runs great, it is only after burning a half a tank or more do I start running into problems. The primer bulb gets sucked flat and the motor will eventually quit from no fuel. I have replaced both the bulb and the fuel/water seperator but I am still having problems. Any suggestions???

Sounds as if the fuel consumed from the tank is not replaced by air as supposed. Thus building a vacuum the fuels flow stops once the vacuum exceeds the fuel pumps ability.

For a test try loosening or removing the fuel cap. If that fixes it, your tank vent is out of order.

Re: FUEL STARVATION

In reading previous posts I recall that there is a valve on fixed fuel tanks where the fuel line meets the tank. Anti-siphon valve I think it was called.

If it got stuck it might cause your problem. I believe the suggestion was to just remove this valve all together.

Can anyone out there confirm this?

You might want to do a search on "anti-siphon" and see what you can find.

Good Luck!

I removed the anti-siphon valve on my tank - you already have check valves in the primer bulb assembly, so it is redundant. It was a matter of simply knocking the guts out of the valve with a hammer and screwdriver. I am getting significantly better fuel flow since.
