Fuel Shut Off Valve advice

I want to fit a fuel shut off valve to a Mercruiser 5l 305cdi engine. Engine Ser. No OM068280. This is a carb model with thunderbolt V Ignition. Unfortunately don't have access to the boat at the moment so not sure of fuel pipe diameter. Had considered fitting the valve at the inlet to the carb, can anyone advise firstly if this is a suitable location and secondly the make / model of a suitable valve. Help appreciated.

You should have a anti siphon valve at the outlet right at the fuel cell. Should be a 3/8 barb fitting ...but inside will have a check ball. These are usually $20. I bet you have one, as all boats are required to have them.

My opinion is to put shut-off valves near the tank, or somewhere you can access while the motor is running, and on fire. Otherwise it may be useless in an emergency.

Looking to fit the valve to help with fogging the engine and ensuring carb is dry before lay up also as a positive isolation in case of fire.

Ayuh,... In case of a Fire, the tank mounted anti-siphon valve is there to do that job...

For annual maintenance,...
Just disconnect the fuel line from the fuel filter, 'n run her dry....

From memory hard piped between filter to carb, easier to shut a valve than undo pipe fittings. Anyone happen to know the fuel pipe diameter.

Ayuh,... Pull the hose off the Other side of the fuelpump....
Or from wherever the hose connects after coming aft...
