My gauge isn't working. So I pulled the sending unit out of the tank, then lifted the arm and it registered full at the gauge when I dropped the arm, it reg, empty. The arm was free, so would that mean the end has a hole in it?

Don't know - can't see it. Take it off and see if it floats. When you removed the sender, did you disconnect the ground wire? Does the arm move freely?

Re: Fuel sender

my first thought would be a hole in the float.

i would double check the wire connections to make sure, could even be a broken wire inside the insulation........ you may have helped the wires make contact when you lifted it up to check it.

Do some search on the forum. There are some really good threads regarding your problem

Re: Fuel sender

The float is a solid block of bouyant material. It could have a hole drilled through it (as it already does for the swing arm) and it would still float. However it may have become "fuel soaked".

Re: Fuel sender

Buy a big cork stopper, stick it on there and give it a try.
