fuel running out of carb

I have a 1978 55 HP Evinrude that I recently rebuilt the carbs. Ran good for a few hours and now back to no idle and stalling out if not under load. If I pump the inline primer it gets hard but if I hold it while hard I get fuel running out of the top carb. Any sugesstions as to what to look for when I get them apart again?

Thanks for the super fast reply. I might be able to get it repaired and save the day to go fishing.

Re: fuel running out of carb

I had this problem on one of my motors not too long ago. It was the condition of the float itself. If it has become saturated with gas (by losing its protective varnish) it will show the same symptoms.

If the float is the problem you can replace it or coat it with fuel proof dope--the stuff used with model airplanes.

Good luck!
