Well, coming in from about an hour of steady riding, she died on me. The rpm's went from around 4500 to 0 in about 3-4 seconds just out of nowhere. I took the cover off and looked in the carb and it was smoking a little. Once the smoke cleared, I noticed that both barrels were full of fuel and there was fuel being steady pumped into the carb even with the shifter in nuetral. I put the shifter in reverse and it stopped. I tried to crank it after a 10 minute wait and it repeated the sequence. It is acting like the fuel pump just keeps dumping fuel in the carb nonstop. Any suggestions????Hopefully, I'm not screwed.

Re: fuel pump???

Fuel pumps don't dump gas,
(unless the pump diaphram leaks/bad)
struck/bad float cutoff/check valves
will because Residual gas line pressure will
continue to push gas into carb if float
doesn't stop it.
(I don'think fuel pump will with out running
I don't know for sure.)
A well struck float chamber
with a soft screw driver handle may
"unstick" it.
I think its your carb float.
I don't know why when you pulled throttle
back it quit, unless the pressure ran out
by then.

Re: fuel pump???

You fuel pump will pump fuel anytime the engine is cranked over, even if the engine doesn't start. The pump is operated off the cam shaft, it turns, the pump pumps.
Alongw with a sticky needle & seat, the float in your carb may have a hole in it, filled with gas and sank, it would allow the. Either way, the carb needs to be taken apart cleaned and inspected. If it was just dirt, you really need to install a fuel filter, or replace the one you have. You should have a fuel filter/water seperator between the gas tank and the fuel pump than will keep the dirt out of the system.

Re: fuel pump???

I will replace the seperator, fuel filter and clean and inspect the carb. With as much fuel that was dumped in the carb, should I do anything with the plugs? Thanks guys...
