Fuel Pump Won't stop running- Help

I have a 1995 Merc 175, Xri, efi. Over the last week, my battery has been completely drained of power within two days of recharging- the battery has been tested and is fine. I have checked all wiring for nicks, etc. that could be creating a circuit and draining it. I have done no work on the motor or boat for months so nothing I messed up recently. However, after recharging this last time, I noticed that there was a humming noise from the engine. When I took the cowling off, there was a humming noise coming from the fuel pump. So, is the fuel pump bad or is it something else that controls it that is shot? The motor works fine after recharging so the fuel pump works it just will not shut off. Is it as simple as replacing that or is there something else to look at/replace?

Thanks

Sounds like pump driver in tha ecu took a dump. Thats what controls it. Its supposed ta run 'bout 15 or so seconds when tha key is turned on, then shut off if tha motor isn't started..............

x2...sounds like the fuel ecu driver is shot/shorted

the ecu controls the negative/ground side...positive to the pump is always hot

Thanks much guys- I assumed it was something other than the pump. Is that easily replaced or do I need to take it in? I am somewhat mechanically inclined but no repair background nor extensive tool set- fuel pump would be easy for me but this not sure?!

Findin' tha right ecu (priced right and good) might be a chore.

Yours should be tha external black pump at tha front of tha vst. I could tell ya how to bypass tha ecu and run tha pump with an added relay and kill switch if you want. Lotsa folks scream that this is bad (might be without tha added kill switch) but we've been doin' it since '87 without any problems.....

I appreciate the offer and I may take you up on it- but I think I will take it in and get a quote on the fix first. They told me over the phone it would cost around $600, so if it is around that amount I think it will do it for piece of mind. I really do appreciate all your advice as it helps with options and also knowing what it takes to fix it so I can avoid the risk of getting my chain yanked on the repair side. If it is substantially more, I will be back for that plan of yours to do the bypass however!!!!!!
