Volvo Penta owner posting in the Mercury Forum. "Why" you ask...... because the previous owner chopped the wiring harness and installed a Mercury fuel pump with Merc style adapter. The fuel pump has now failed after many years of trouble free operation. My options are 1) fix the wiring and install the correct low pressure Volvo Penta fuel pump or 2) Install a new Mercury pump. The current Mercury fuel pump has a part number 861155-1. I believe going with a Merc fuel pump may be easier than finding the correct adapter and rewiring to the VP style fuel pump.

After much Googling I found a post claiming that the 861155A3 is the direct replacement for 861155-1. iBoats sells a Sierra equivalent of OEM 861155A3 (5.0/ 5.7L V-8) and an OEM 861155A6 (4.3 V6). Does anyone know if Mercury fuel pump 861155A3 is replacement for 861155-1? I'm also wondering if anyone knows the specs for either of these Merc pumps. The original Volvo Penta pump was supposed to deliver between 4.9 and 8.5 PSI at idle and between 3.5 and 7.3 PSI at 4600 RPM. I have a 97' 4.3 V6 Volvo with a 650CFM Holley 4 BBL carb.

Any input is appreciated. My goal is to get back on the water before the 4th of July.

Thanks!
Chris

The -A3 and the -A6 numbers come up as different parts. One does not supersede to the other (in either direction)... The -1 number is not a valid number for a Merc part... If you found that number on the pump, it's a factory number not a spare part number... The -A3 number comes up as being used on everything from the smallest V6 to a few of the 8.1/496 big blocks... The -A6 number look like it is the -A3 with a few brackets and adapters thrown in...
