fuel pump related ???

ran out to the lake saturday morning, motor just shut down.....would not start had to troll back to the launch..... I cannot hear the fuel pump running when the key is turned on..... ? how many fuel pumps are on this motor, it is a 97 225 EFI merc....

You have 2 fuel pumps, the primary square pump that supplys fuel from boat to VST tank and high pressure pump in tank that sends fuel to injectors. Here is how to test it: remove negative wire from terminal on fuel pump(red/purple trace) and install a jumper on pump terminal and ground. If pump does not come on take a tester and check for 12vdc at positive terminal on pump. If you do not have 12vdc the driver board is bad in ECU. If you have 12 vdc remove positive wire and apply a known 12vdc source to it and pump should run, if not pump is bad. If driver board is bad you can do the followingA) replace ECU (B) send it for repair (C) run a relay to turn pump on/off just have to watch long idles as pump is running on high(racers trick)
