Fuel Pump Question and OEM parts

I have a 86 150 Black Max XR2 serial#OB122507, I'm looking at getting a water pump kit and rebuilding the fuel pump. Do I just need the 89031A2 fuel pump kit? I see where a Check valve kit is listed 21-30430A 8, is that also needed? When buying parts is it better to buy Mercury or Sierra? I see a lot of listings for Sierra parts which are cheaper.

Get the OEM kit. It comes with new style check valves.

When given the choice between OEM and aftermarket ... go OEM.
