So I have a 1996 Volvo penta 4.3 and the alternator belt snapped while I was on the Lake running it.After it snapped it started shutting off.So I had to keep priming the ball so I could make it back to land. After that I replaced it and was still doing the same thing.I checked the fuel pump and it was not working. So I hot wired it and it works but I’m not getting any power to the plug that plugs in the pump. The fuses are good and the alternator is good. Now I’m stuck any guesses on what it could be?

If you can get the serial number of your engine, it will help greatly. Many people on here more knowledgeable and with access to wiring diagrams that can give you troubleshooting advice

At least let us know if it's carbureted, throttle body injected, or port injected.

Agree, need more info about your engine to better advise. However with what you said, your problem might be limited to just a power supply issue. Start working power backwards from the wiring harness plug at the fuel pump, checking connections and health of wiring harness. Also ensure your ignition is in the correct position for power to be sent to the pump so your tests are accurate. Once the wiring harness is inspected for any visible issues and all fuses have been ohmd out, start at the alternator and follow voltage to your pump until you find your issue. Might be the alternator itself.

First thing I would check is the fuel pump relay.

Ok, so like Augoose said, follow the wiring back from the pump. It might be pretty tough without a diagram but you should be able to find a relay or solenoid to test. Also make sure the oil pressure switch is working. And make sure you are getting power out of the alternator

Primer ball is not required for sterndrive/inboard engines. In fact it can cause a restriction before the fuel pump and cause poor performance or failure of the pump

Iirc Volvo powers the fuel pump off the alternator in some instances, may want to double check your wiring at the alternator. Also, as mentioned check the fuel pump relay and associated wiring

I’m getting power to the plug 12.7 and my relays are good and the pump still isn’t pumping.Btw the pump is good it works when I put a + and - to it
