That's good to hear, but it isn't helping me solve the problem. I can make gaskets, bet most of us here can. I'm not really afraid of taking the pump apart. Can prob make a diaphragm too. From what I've read it's pretty hard to find the appropriate material. Is there something common around the house I might have? Or something I can find locally that would work? How about a thread on how to plumb in a pump for a different year? I'm guessing the main problem is mounting and pressure pulse.

Nope.-----Look at parts manuals and you will find that the pump from a 1976 model 25 HP will bolt right on.---Diaphragm material from say a1966 model 100 HP pump can be used to cut one for your pump.-----You seem reluctant to tackle simple jobs .----I think I will step aside on this one.

Not reluctant, just your run of the mill noob. Trying to get info I need to fix my motor. I understand if you don't want to discuss entry level stuff. With 31,000 posts I'm definitely not on your level.

So read this from Leroy's ramblings. It's your motor but scroll down to the fuel pump part. I've never worked on that pump but if you read this it says you can use the newer small sq. type pump (probably the 76 one Racer said to use) but you need two longer screws. The earlier ones you had to use a conversion plate but I think yours is newer. Anyhow he addresses your pump with pictures in the link.

Hope it helps

Took the cover off the pump to clean the screen. Not a speck in it so carb should still be good. Old cork gasket looked like it had seen better days so made a new one. No leaks now and clean screen. Think I'm good to go. Thanks for the edjimication and sorry for all the dumb questions.

Question is, did it run good?

Haven't tested it yet, but it ran strong when I had it out last week. It just kept faltering and wanting to die. After seeing all the sludge in the tank it's a wonder it ran at all. Stuff was very weird though. Like a super fine saw dust that would disappear if you rubbed some between your fingers. Hoping to get it back in the water in the next couple days. I just have an issue with the fuel tank still. Stripped threads in the tank are going to get tapped out for 1/2" male brass bushing and then the 3/8" elbow will get reinserted. If it still won't get tight, going to order a new hose connector. I really don't want one of the new ventless "balloon" tanks.

Fuel pump seems just fine. Made a new gasket for it and it no longer leaks. Screen was super clean. Weird. With all that crud in the tank, how can that be? Fixed the tank elbow again. Permanently I think. No more air bubbles.

Put it in the lake and all seemed good. Started right up, idled really smooth. Then I gave it some gas and it fell on it's face. No power, sounds a bit ragged. Revs up, but goes real slow.

Thinking the carb must be dirty again. Main jet probably clogged. Sound reasonable? Even though there was not a spec of crap in the screen in the pump?
